Every year, 4 lakh Indians lose their lives waiting for organs. With less than 1000 cadaveric donations (organ donations from a deceased donor) taking place last year, India has an Organ Donation rate of 0.8 person per million individuals, one of the lowest in the world. In a nation of over a billion people, there’s not even 1 organ donor in a million.
NDTV and Fortis Healthcare have taken up the cause of creating awareness around this cause. ‘NDTV Fortis More to Give Walkathon – A step towards organ donation’ is one such initiative that aimed at mobilising the nation in this direction. The Walkathon is organised every year around the National Organ Donation Day on November 27 aims to inform people about the need and importance of Organ Donation.
This year the Walkathon is being held on November 25, 2018 in 7 cities. The registration for the Walkathon 2018 is now closed.

Take The Pledge: Be An Organ Donor
I’m willing for donor my body organised after death
Great work you are doing
Great job we salute ndtv
Good work
sir i am sidhartha from assam i interest donate my organ
Good
it isnt enough to pledge organs we need to be more proactive when we get information about accidents sensitisation of all people across sectors, implementation of the same, encouraging collaboration between various networks etc….. its a step in the right direction but is also fraught with misuse too……
I am felling very fortunate that I am also eligible to donate my Organs after filling this Registration. Its a moment of immense satisfaction in my life,
With Best Regards,
Diwakar Sharma
Great to know about this event and I would like to meet humble souls like you who have pledged their organs. I am a organ recepient and living now because some family cared and donated the organs.
The absence of the eastern part of India sticks out like a sore thumb. No Kolkata, Bhubhaneshwar, Patna, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Shillong…..
Is it because Fortis and NDTV see no pottential for organ donors from this part of the country? Or could it be that they see no pottential for a market for their products?
If any of my organs saves a human life after my death or at least serves the purpose for study to students/researchers, because at the age nearing 60, I am doing normally despite having multiple health complications which started when I was just 35. To my way of thinking this will be the best I move to encourage my generations to serve the human cause in any way.
I applaud your attitude, sir! Perhaps your positivity defeated those health complications 🙂
