Zainab, now 8-years-old, was only 5 when doctors told her parents that she needed a kidney transplant. She received another girl’s kidney who died in a road mishap. Here’s a letter written by her, to her angel who saved her life. It has not been edited to retain the essence with which she wrote it.
Dear Angel,
How are you? I am good …., I don’t know your name ,don’t know how you looked like , but I am sure your heart must be very beautiful as your parents, who donated a part of you to save me. Now I can live a normal life, no dialysis, no painful pricks and yes no restriction on food and water. You know Angel for one year I was not supposed to eat most of the fruits, green veggies and big no-no to juices and plenty of water. Now I can eat everything.
What was your favorite pastime? It must be playing with friends. I too love playing out, running around, laugh, shout, jump, going to school, dancing and much more. But due to my sick kidneys I became very weak, my mamma use to carry me everywhere. But after transplant I can enjoy my life.
I want to say thanks to your parents but my parents say that we can’t thank them enough. So now I consider myself as your sister as a part of you is still alive in me.
You are in heaven, near god, can you say thanks to god on my behalf for answering my prayers?
With loads of love..
Yours Zainab..
