Tirupati: An 18-year-old youth, who was declared brain dead following an accident, has given fresh lease of life to four people with his organs which were donated.

M Dhananjay Reddy, a native of Gudireddi Gari in Chittoor, was critically injured after an accident at Angallu near Madanapalli, 100 km from Tirupati, on November 10, said Dr Sivakumar who is the director of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Sciences (SVIMS), where he had been brought for treatment.

However, after the examination, the team of doctors in the hospital found him brain dead and informed his parents.

Members of Jeevandan Trust, a government organisation, then approached Dhananjay’s parents with the request to donate his organs, including his heart, liver and kidneys, which was readily accepted by them, SVIMS officials said.

After harvesting, the heart was donated to Malar Hospital at Chennai, the liver to Manipal Hospital at Vijayawada, one kidney to Narayana Hospital at Nellore and the other to the SVIMS here, which saved the life of four patients, they added.
