Fact Check: Was Jaishankar Asked To Move To The Back During Trump's Inauguration?

Published On:January 24, 2025 | Duration: 1 min, 04 sec

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the US on January 20. Several prominent Indians were present at the ceremony, including Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar and Nita and Mukesh Ambani. Jaishankar represented the Indian government in the ceremony and was seated in the front row. Social media, however, is now awash with rumours that Jaishankar was asked to sit in the back while the ceremony was going on. Alongside this assertion, people shared a video clip from the ceremony, in which a woman can be seen approaching Jaishankar and making a gesture. The text written in the video alleges that she asked him to leave but he refused.

Then, at three hours, eight minutes, and 53 seconds, a woman from the other row could be seen walking up to the cameraperson and touching her shoulder, asking her to go to the back. This made it clear the woman did not touch Jaishankar's shoulder as claimed in the viral clip. After that, the cameraperson sat down. It is thus clear that viral claims are misleading. A cameraperson was asked to move to the back - not S Jaishankar.
