In today's episode of India Global, Banu Mushtaq has become the first Kannada writer to win the coveted International Booker Prize on Tuesday in London, along with the 50,000 pound prize pool. She received the honour for her short story collection 'Heart Lamp'. The book was translated by Deepa Bhasthi from Kannada to English. Mushtaq described this as a collective win of diversity while receiving the award at Tate Modern, London. 'Heart Lamp' was amongst the six titles shortlisted by judges. They described the book as witty, vivid and moving. Mushtaq, who has donned multiple hats throughout her life displays a collection of 12 short stories in the book written between 1990 and 2023. The stories reflect her background as a journalist and an advocate while focusing on the indomitable spirit of women fighting for their rights and demanding justice.
