The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has finally managed to clear the last roadblock at the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), after reaching a settlement with landowners who had blocked a 330-meter stretch of the road. So far, vehicles travelling on the 16-kilometer road have had no choice but to travel through an 11-feet revenue road at Rambir Ki Dhani to bypass the block, but this will not be the case any longer.

The project has so far been stalled due to land acquisition problems. But the land owners who had blocked the 330-meter stretch have finally agreed to vacate their plots and move to new plots in sector-49, that were assigned to them in a draw system last month. Local authorities are already moving ahead to remove all existing structures in the area and are widening the roads. Speaking to NDTV, HUDA Administrator Yashpal Yadav stated that the road should be fully operational by the end of the month

As per policy, we had to give alternate plots to the allottees, which we did. An 11-feet wide road is already there and for the remaining structures, we have issued notices and are in process of removing those. The 16-kilometer SPR starts from the Faridabad-Gurgaon Road near Ghata; passes through the Sohna Road at Vatika Chowk and connects to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Kherki Daula. With it now getting operational, thousands of commuters from Faridabad, Delhi, Golf Course Road, Sohna road and other adjoining areas will be able to enjoy a far easier commute. And of course, real estate along the stretch will also witness demand rising in the near future.

HUDA officials have also acquired additional land for the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the construction of a Cloverleaf interchange which will ensure smoother connectivity between the SPR and Dwarka Expressway at NH-08. The NHAI is expected to start work on it soon.
