What’s Your Choice: Special Edition
Through this final episode of What’s Your Choice for this season we thank you very, very much for all your wonderful support, your encouraging comments and your determination to fight with us against social evils by intervening. This show has made it clear, when anyone asks an ordinary Indian – What’s Your Choice – you’ve answered categorically – step in and do something, act – do not turn away and say this is none of my business.
Watch:
At the outset let me admit, i have not seen the show since i am sitting in the USA.However:to answer your questions i feel we do not care because
1. our whole upbringing is to ‘mind your own business’ which includes all aspects of life except where it affects you personally.
2. getting involved in a public brawl which involves a woman, we play safe to avoid complications.
3. we definitely do not reach out to help a person in distress such an accident or even murder simply because we cannot or do not afford to clash with the police who in most cases try to fix you as the ‘first suspect’ and it takes a lot of wriggling around to get out of the charge; alternately, the guys will insist upon your involvement till the case is resolved to THEIR satisfaction with the added danger that the charged will take revenge upon you later on-there is no witness protection.
4.Overall I blame our whole spiritual system called “AHAM BRAHMASMI” by which we are all taught to fend for ourselves without getting involved or worse not caring for the society outside which may go to Hell, as long as our one self is emancipated. So thinking in terms of the whole society around one is discouraged. Though the Ancients taught LOKA SAMATHA SUKHINO BHAVANTHU, we havefailed in that thought.
Pranoy, following you since your day 1 on TWTW and this quiet revolution is an impressive initiative. Please do note that India is a very big country and what holds true in ND or Meerut may differ from how people react in other parts of this country; so you may want to show some diversity too irrespective of your viewership demographics. That being said, there are some hidden aspects also in the Indian society – you may want to consider stating this. For example, people who discriminate have usually double standards and they don’t behave the way our actors did in public while they behave worse in their families. The bottomline is – it’s very important to be factual and correct when we are testing someone else. Thanks, Pranoy, and keep up the great work! Cheers!
