Corporates Support The Fight Against Cancer
Corporate India supports the NDTV-Fortis Health4U Cancerthon - a campaign to raise funds to treat children battling cancer.
Speaking to Vikram Chandra during the NDTV-Fortis Health4U Cancerthon, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson & MD of BIOCON said that as long as you can contain and localise the cancer, you can cure it. She also spoke about some of the advancements being made in cancer research.
To support the treatment of children with cancer, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw donated Rs. 2 crores during Cancerthon.
Arun Bharat Ram, Chairman, SRF donated Rs. 5 lakhs on Cancerthon. Speaking to NDTV during the event, he said that cancer detection tests have to be made more accessible so that the costs of these tests can be brought down.
In support of the Cancerthon, Y K Hamied, Chairman of Cipla said that there are 200 different types of cancer and so there is a need for affordable prices to be implemented across wide range of products. He said that the problem of high drug prices is because of monopoly, we need to increase competition to make cancer drugs and vaccines affordable.
Shivinder and Malvinder Singh from Fortis join NDTV's Vikram Chandra on stage for a discussion at the 8-hour Cancerthon. Fortis has partnered with NDTV for the Cancerthon to raise funds for children battling cancer.
NDTV contributes Rs. 10 lakhs for the treatment of childhood cancer during the Cancerthon.
