To, Manoj Sir
My favourite teacher is Manoj sir. He used to teach my class Economics in Class 11. He used to make us realise the hardships our families are going through to ensure that we complete our education. He used to make us think about why our families would take the trouble to send us to school and what their aim behind it would be. Every time I wouldn’t feel like studying, I’d think of these things to encourage myself.

To, Mrs. Vijayalakshmi
BVEMS, ManiWe may not say this every day, but your inspirational words are like beautiful footprints that have been etched in our hearts and minds forever. Thank you.

Neena Ma’am,
St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45-A, ChandigarhI’m not sure whether you will ever get this message or that even you are alive and well, though I surely hope you are because you came into my life like an Angel descended upon Earth. You taught us Geography and French but you really taught us the language of love. I have yet to come across even one teacher like you who has given unconditional, infinite love to all her students and really inspired them and encouraged them to overcome their fears. Really, I salute you Ma’am and so would all my friends who remember you and miss you. Wherever in the world you are, I hope our best wishes and this message reaches you as a reminder that you have not been forgotten at all. You are the sweetest.

To, Grrecy Lobo,
Government School KHEP-Kadra, UK districtYou taught me when I was in high school. You are my true inspiration… I learnt so many things like how to face life and be positive from you. You taught me it was important to have faith in God. Thank you for everything. Do you remember when my mother was not well, you guided me and prayed for my mother? My mother passed away 2 years back. But, I still feel her. Now, I am a scientific field officer. Much love. Happy Teachers Day.

To, Mrs. Chelliah
I would love to dedicate this day to my favorite teacher Mrs. Chelliah. I lived in Chennai and used to go for Maths Tution to her and only because of her could I secure good marks. She never beat up any of her students and was extremely patient. She analyses the person’s weakness and then teaches accordingly. She used to look after me like one of her grandchildren. Really, no words would be enough to praise such a wonderful person.
-
To, Jyotishna Narang,

To, Prof Chirravuri Sita Prasada Rao, Govt Arts College, Rajahmundry
I wouldn’t have imagined moving out of Rajahmundry to pursue my Masters in Mathematics in Warangal if it wasn’t for you. You were a wonderful counsellor to me and my parents. You turned my fate around. I went on to do my MSc and PhD from a rather reputed institute. Prayers for you wherever you are, sir!
-

Mrs. Pawan Wilkh,
St Joseph Cathedral SchoolMa’am, you have always been a source of inspiration for all students. You made me look at subjects from a different perspective… not as mere subjects to get good grades, but as a source of knowledge. Today I take this opportunity on behalf of all the students of Cathedral School to THANK YOU for everything!
-
Prof. R. Ramesh,
Physical Research Laboratory, AhmedabadIronically, I learnt everything after my MSc because I met Prof Ramesh during my Ph.D. He has not only taught me how to do research but also how to do better in academics. He taught me everything – from how to ask right questions to how to properly answer questions. He was very approachable; I didn’t have to think twice before asking him anything.
-
Mr. Yogesh Bansal
If I had not you as my teacher in my early years, my life would be incredibly different. I’m not saying it would be bad – but you opened my eyes to what I could be, what I could do, in a way that I would’ve never thought was possible. You took a kid from a small town and made him want to see the world and beyond. You changed my ideas of learning; I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. Your encouragement and persistence in my junior years has taught me that I am who I am, and to get to the top, it’s all down to me. I am capable, but it will take hard work and lots of dedication. Thanks for being my Guru and my mentor.

Mrs. Vijaya. M A K
Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ashok NagarMrs. Vijaya was my Biology teacher in secondary school. She taught with great passion and pictorial representations which helped. It was so muche asier to grasp things in her class. Sadly, she’s no more. But, ma’am, you will always remain the best teacher for me. You played a vital role in moulding me.

Nirmala ma’am, you were such a sincere person and would not tolerate any wrong doing. You would make extra efforts to ensure that each student took their studies seriously. You made us understand that there could not be any shortcut to success. Thank you very much. I hope teachers like you continue to inspire students in the coming generations.

Sri Ethiraj Sir, Retd. Head Master,
Sri Venkateswara High School, Vellore, Tamil NaduIf anybody says that I am a successful man, the credit for it goes go to my revered teacher Sri. Ethiraj Sir, who not only taught science to us, but also moulded us. The way he taught us Science cannot be forgotten for all positive reasons. Besides teaching Science, he was our NCC Officer. My sincere Pranams to him on this occasion. I would like to add that my association with him still continues. I meet him whenever I visit Chennai. Even at his age of around 85, he keeps himself busy by attending all social functions and meeting old students. I sincerely pray to God for his good health.

Mrs. Usha Janvekar
Dr. Antonio Da Silva High School, DadarYou were the best teacher I ever came across. I have learnt so much from you. Mrs Sikand
Spring Dales School, Pusa Road, New DelhiI used to study in a govt school till Class 4. I took admission in Spring Dales via their scholarship scheme in Class 5. I did not even know A,B,C,D… she took pains in teaching us all the basics of all subjects. She taught a class of 20 students, including me, stuff that we should’ve already known. She made sure we could attend classes with all other students, and be at par with them, in Class 7. Hats off to her!
-
Jayashree Karia
I do not remember what we students addressed you as a teacher in Class 1 since it is many many years back, perhaps 1984. You were my class teacher then. Time has rolled on and life has also taken its toll, but I do hope you are happy and reachable. I remember the day in when you pleaded with our Arabic teacher not to fail me in Class 1 as it would affect my career. I remember how you touched her feet for me, a stranger. It hurt me… why should an Indian touch a foreigner’s feet? But, it was because of me and you did it for me. I dont really know what to say’. Thanks a lot, I hope I get to meet you some day and that you’d be proud of your student.
-
Hema Narayan
Sudarshan Vidya Mandir, BengaluruShe is not only a teacher, but a life giver. Her true passion for knowledge is something that has always astounded me. Today, my current status in the society, both economically and knowledge-wise, is all because of you! Thank you for always being there and looking out for me and making me what I am today. I am forever indebted to you.

Ms Chitra Ray
IIT, KanpurI was one of the students who passed a preliminary test conducted on the first day which enabled me to do only one English Course at IIT, Kanpur as against two courses for those who did not clear it. The result surprised me as until then I was not confident of public speaking in English. I learnt that the test was conducted mainly to check the grammatical aspects of the language. So, I was in a class of about 30 students and mode was tutorials based learning. The most fascinating aspect of this course was its design. Ms Ray would come up with a few pages of an article and then discuss it thread-bare eliciting response from each student. Stress was now on pronunciation, meaning of words and above all various other contexts in which the same word could be used. At times, she would go so deep that by just picking one word, she would encourage us to stretch our thinking so that we can express more and more ways to describe diverse people/situations, etc. thereby enhancing our basic grasp on the language. Finally, the most important reason why I have never forgotten to thank her at every possible platform is her encouragement to students like me to come to the blackboard and make us both write and speak in front of the Class. Her proddings and subtle ways of instilling confidence in us was not only genuine, but excellent too. Today, when I look back almost 43 years since she taught us in 1972, I feel that this small message is a continuation of me acknowledging her role in developing my communication skills. I hope she reads this message.
-
Mr Naresh Dalal,

Mr Packiamuthu Senthivel
Hindustan Organic Chemicals School, RasayaniIt has been almost 28 years since you taught me. It was so much fun studying Mathematics from you in Class 9 and 10. All thanks to you for making Mathematics a loveable subject. You never got angry while teaching but could still control the class. Your classes were never dull. When I remember you (which I do quite often), I feel as if it was only yesterday when we had met. It has been very long though. Sir, you are the BEST teacher I have come accross in my life and I tell this to my family as well. Hope to see you sometime in India.
-
Mrs. Sujatha Jairam,
RD from Pondicherry UniversityI owe my career to Sujatha ma’am. She made classes very interesting and drew from her own experiences as a dietitian. Every student in her class wanted to do well for her, I most certainly did! She ensured that her students got every opportunity to understand the profession. She inspired me to become a dietitian, taught how to value life and treat everyone from a janitor to a CEO with respect. She is the best teacher I ever had. Thank you Sujatha ma’am and a very happy teacher’s day to you.

-
Shri Selvaraj,
Craft Teacher, Thiru Vi Ka School, PondicherryThough a Craft teacher, due to shortage of teachers, you were taking English Class for me in VI Std. Taught us the basics of English Grammar with lot of pain and patience. Your method of teaching the basics made me more interested in the aesthetics of the language throughout my life. I landed my job only after qualifying in an English language test. I owe my success to your selfless and sincere (without clamouring for recognition or any other benefits) way of teaching. I pray to God that wherever you are, you are bestowed with good health and happiness.
-
Mrs. Sreedevi Nair,

I wish that you & your family be always be showered with happiness and good health.

(Late)Mrs Padmaja,
RBVRR Women’s CollegeYour encouragement in seeking knowledge beyond the curriculum opened the flood gates of the outside world for us. Personally, when you made the books locked in the shelves available for us was what shaped my attitude towards open library system in my 27 years career as a librarian. Wherever you are ma’am, you made an impact on each one of your students.
-
Mr. Joseph Rodrigues
You have given me the light of wisdom, knowledge, discipline. Thank you, sir, for all that you have given me and making me what I am today.

VP Abdullakutty
A great teacher and a great human being. He always used to come to our class with a piece of chalk and a smiling face, nothing more. Every equation, every possible concept in physics was stored in his brain. And he used to take us everyday to the wonderful world of physics during our MSc time. A great man of physics with a great loving and caring nature. My ideal teacher.
-
Shri Ram Lal Ji,
Gyan Bharti M.S.Inter College, Birhana Road, KanpurIt was 1980, I’d just passed my Class 8 exams with a second division from UP board. I passed with grace marks in marks in Science. My father, who hadn’t studied beyond Class 10, couldn’t figure out what to do with me. It seemed like I had a very bleak future. Then, one day, my father dragged to the house of a Maths tutor he knew. The tutor used to teach his employer’s children. On my very day of tuitions, sir taught me for one-and-a-half hours. I studied Maths for 8 hours that day. That day changed the course of my life, I committed to my books and did nothing except study. I secured first division in Class 10, 12 and my graduation. He taught me Maths in a way that it became a child’s paly. i always got a distinction in Maths after that. I went on to do CA. I cleared all four groups within three years… quite an achievement for anybody! Ram Lal sir converted a junk vehicle into a F1 car. I bow my head in respect for him.
-
Mr. M.S. Sreenvasan,
E.R. High SchoolIt was you who inspired me to learn the language of English, who motivated me to speak in Enghlish. I was just a vagabond who came to school from Lalgudi to Trichy for the fun of traveling in the train (18 kms covering in 1.45 hrs those days!). Your simple approach towards students, never behaving as a teacher but more as a friend impressed me and helped me to master the language of English. Your teaching of History & Geography (subjects that bore students even today) has helped me come a long way. Today during various discussions, my friends feel as though I have specialized in these subjects. But, I never studied these subjects after I left school. Today, I am a doctorate in Pharmacology and work for a Pharma Company. But, it was you who transformed me from a vagabond country brute who came from a village where even electricity was a luxury into a disciplined metro guy setlled in Mumbai. Respect!

Prayers for the well-being and happiness of all teachers!
To my biology teacher, St Mary’s HS, Trivandrum
Madam, I am sorry I don’t remember your name. You taught me biology in in 6th std in 1989.Although I didn’t realize at that time, you completely changed my destiny. You were so good a teacher, even a backbencher like me also started paying attention in biology which spread slowly to other subjects also. I owe whatever I am now to you.
Dear V, The way you inspired me to study was un-imaginable. I made things to happen which were very difficult. Studying continuously after working for 8 hours of heavy work was exhaustive. I lived my dream by getting the qualification needed to survive in life. I was not able to impress your family & had to vanish forever. I will never forget your inspiration & belief. I thank you & your family forever. Yours Atnak.
Thanks a ton for give us this wonderful opportunity to express our gratitude. But,I am not sure how would these messages reach them or their family members. But,its really a good thought from our NDTV Crew.
