“This one time, a 16-year-old girl came to me and told me that she won’t give her Class 10 exams because she was soon going to get married. She suggested that I teach her some other skill that she could earn a livelihood from or get her a job some place. She was becoming a financial burden on her family and wanted to change that. She gave me the idea of starting vocational courses alongside giving tuitions to children. I hired a lady who was working at a beauty parlour nearby, and was the mother of one of the students who came for tuitions, to train girls to become beauticians. About 15 girls enrolled in the first batch. It was a six-month long certificate course. That girl got a job in a beauty parlour in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash market at a salary for Rs. 8,000. She’s earning more than all her family members put together. This was a huge achievement for us.”
– As told to Tania Goklany. He is one of the five people who jointly founded Samiksha Shiksha Sanstha, a trust that makes education more accessible to underprivileged children.
Sir, you are right, I have been telling this all and sundry since almost 5 years. Our education system wants everyone to be Sir CV Raman, which is impossible. Forget Quadratic equation and Pythagoras Theorem, which is of no use to a student in Morarjee or Navodaya Vidyalaya school. Even as an Engineer I do not use any of these concepts in our day-to-day events. What they need is vocational education on Skills. Look at Journalist, they don’t specialist in any subject in college and are masters in NONE but speak about all issues as an authority. Tragedy of our system
The idea of skill is very important. you may be less educate but must possess a skill, you can earn moRe than your expectation . congress govt never cared for people financial condition but filled their lockers with scam money . MODI BECAUSE BELONGS TO POOR FAMILY RIGHTLY EMPHASIZED ON SKILL ORIENTED COURSES . YOU HAVE DONE HUMAN SERVICE TO GUIDE UNEMPLOYED YOUTH TO HAVE SOME SKILL WORK AND ENJOY LUXURIOUS LIFE AND ALSO HELP YOUR FAMILY . .
Thanking you – Kapil Dev Suri
