Kundan
Age: 18
“I never felt like I had to struggle a lot to get educated until now. I have just started with college; I am pursuing BA Programme from Delhi University’s (DU) Open School of Learning. I would’ve been attending regular classes in DU if it wasn’t for our financial crisis. Eventually, I want to get into hotel management. My English will be a problem, time lagega, magar seekh jaunga (it’ll take a while for me to improve my English, but I will definitely pick it up). I’m looking for a part-time job to support my education. I worked as a waiter in a hotel for a month recently. I quit because they wanted to take me to Chandigarh. I didn’t want to stay away from home. My father hasn’t been keeping too well recently. He paints walls for a living. He seems to have developed some sort of allergy from the lesser known brands of paints. If the paint touches his hands, they start bleeding profusely. He hasn’t been able to work much; he spends more time at home these days. Dekha nahi jaata papa ko aise (it’s very difficult to see my father suffering like this). We’ve been making the two ends meet with a lot of difficulty. I have an older brother who failed twice in Class 12, he’s repeating the class yet again. He has always been weak in studies. My younger brother isn’t as interested in studying. He spends a lot of time in the wrong company of people. I failed once, in Class 8. That was when I realised how important education is to get ahead in life. Ghar-walo ko mujhse jyaada umeed hai (my parents have more expectations from me). I want to complete my education, get a good job and help my family.”
– As told to Tania Goklany. She met Kundan at Samiksha Shiksha Sanstha in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.

I can sponsor this young man for his higher education on the singular condition that he will obtain above 60% marks and that nothing will be given in cash to him/his family. Yes all the educational fees and the books etc that he will require, will be made available to him.

paints fumes chemicals oils woodturnings are health hazards at times it is the only option left for parents for their children up bring. although many government policies are existing on the subject matter. Efforts should be made for effective implementation on the ground. super 30 is one example many are required for minimum basic vocational education to earn for lively hood.
