Mumbai: With an aim to attract the attention of people of Delhi, especially the youth, towards the cause of road safety, the Delhi Traffic Police has roped in Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan. The Delhi Traffic Police approached both the actors to promote safe driving as they are currently shooting in the capital for their upcoming movies ‘Sui Dhaaga- Made in India’
We wanted to do an event with them to promote safe driving but they were on a tight schedule. We have recorded their video messages that will be uploaded on our Twitter handle, a senior traffic police officer told PTI.
In a series of video messages released by the Delhi Traffic Police on a social networking site, actor Anushka is seen urging people to always wear a helmet while riding on two-wheelers.
“Delhi Police does a lot of things for our safety. Your life is important for you and your loved ones. You should drive safely. While riding a motorcycle, you should always wear a helmet,” the actor said in the message.
In another video she says, “Help the Delhi police reduce road accidents, do not cross red lights. Live safe.”
Actor Varun Dhawan’s video message will also be uploaded soon on twitter, the official said.
This isn’t the first time that Delhi Traffic Police has involved the actors to spread the social message. Previously, actors like Arjun Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Kapil Sharma have taken part in the campaign to spread awareness.
Delhi has shown an improvement in terms of reducing road accidents. In 2015, a total of 8,085 road accidents were reported in the capital. As per the latest report available with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Delhi recorded 6,673 road accidents in 2017. That is a drop of 17 per cent in accidents on Delhi’s roads. Although the cases of road accidents have decreased in the last two years, there hasn’t been a notable change in the road accidents deaths. In 2015, Delhi 1,622 people lost their lives due to road accidents, which came down to 1,584 in 2017.
