Environmental Expert Vishal Singh Shares His Experience on the Show
I think that the show Green Champion was a great way to encourage more people to think and act for nature – not just with dialogue but with some action. This show is also bringing out so many people who are doing fabulous jobs only for the sake of the environment and that excited me. I am personally not a big fan of competition, but it’s ok if it helps spark some thinking.
It was my also first time being on such a show of grand scale, and in front of so many cameras. It was strange for me seeing many people around me and at the end realizing that the whole country will see me on small screen. I was concerned about making sure the task was tough, but fair, and also brought out the creative side to all the Green Challengers. It was important that people understand the philosophy behind my work, and how waste is only really wasted when you throw it out. We can always reuse everything.
Udaipur is a famous but small city, and when we took the Green Challengers to the dump, the idea was to show them that there is no clean space in our cities anymore. We just move garbage from one place to another. We don’t eliminate it.
Here are some suggestions which we can incorporate in our lives to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle:
- DIY handbag out of a scarf: Avoid using plastic bags, and make use of a scarf bag as its very light, strong, and easy to make. You can also untie it for other purposes (shelter from the sun), and then retie it to carry things.
- Water bottle: Take your own bottle of water and always ask for refill it, rather than throwing it away.
- Prefer using empty envelops, utilize the other side for writing and make a rough pad for use.
- Always shop from local farmers and shopkeepers and request them to not use plastic bags to pack things for their customers. Also, it would be great if you carry your own small bag or container.
