Contest: Identify A Road To Safety Hero

1. From Gujarat – Kashika

I had saved a puppy from a road accident which led to promoting road safety in my colony. So now everybody makes sure that no one is driving rashly on the streets. One positive thing in Surat is that it is a dry state so no one can drink and drive here. Hopefully, every citizen will soon take road safety seriously.

2. From Maharashtra – Swapnil

In my recent travel to the airport from my home I happened to strike a discussion with a taxi driver over bad traffic situation in India. I then informed him about how indiscipline drivers cause traffic jams. I did explain him about few points which he should remember when he drives next.

a. Always drive in low beam during night hours, especially in the city.
b. One should never occupy pedestrian crossing during the red traffic signal.
c. While on highway never occupy the fast lane.
d. Use horn only when it is necessary.
e. Keep calm when driving.
f. Do not drink and drive.

I hope he takes some my suggestion seriously and bring changes to his driving style.

3. From Kerala – Unni

I am a college assistant professor. I started teaching after 23 years in the logistics industry. While professionally working, I had to travel at least 50-100 Kms, thrice a week on my motorbike for marketing calls. I have met with 3 accidents in my life and every time wearing a good certified helmet has saved my life.

Even nowadays, I travel on my bike to work (approx.75 Kms. both ways). I see many youngsters driving rashly without a helmet/talking on their cell phones while riding. Whenever I can intercept them on traffic signals or roadsides, I show them my operation scar mark & tell them about unsafe driving. Some hear me out but others ignore the advise.

I also talk to the MBA trainees at my college to use a helmet while riding. I feel that if I keep up the effort, I can make a difference in a small way.

Every four minutes a road accident happens in India.
