Have you ever wondered – what if our bodies were built to survive a car crash? If the way our body was designed made us invincible to fractures and bruises? What would we have looked like? The answer to all these questions is Graham, who is out there reminding us of just how vulnerable our bodies really are. Every year, about 1.25 million people die due to car crashes and between 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury. Among these, India is the deadliest country in the word – here, deaths from road crashes have killed 15 times the number of people than all the wars fought since independence. The numbers say it all!
According to the SaveLIFE foundation, around 1,304,345 people in India have been killed in preventable road crashes and around 5,085,691 people have been seriously injured or disabled in road crashes in the last ten years.
If these numbers are not enough to teach you to drive safe and be more responsible on the streets, then ‘Graham,’ an imaginary human body is at your service. Meet Graham the only evolved human that can survive a car crash! This humanoid figure has been created jointly by artist Patricia Piccinini, leading trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield and road safety engineer Dr David Logan. His body has been specially designed to overcome all the vulnerable spots in a real human body.
So how does Graham differ from a real human?
Graham who has a gigantic head like a helmet, a flat face with a sunken nose and ears, no neck and air bags between each rib hopes to drive home the message of road safety.
