Coimbatore: A brain dead retired teacher became instrumental in giving a new lease of life to seven people, as his vital organs were given to the patients waiting for an organ transplant. The donor N Nachimuthu met with an accident on September 4 and after first aid at the Government hospital, he was brought and admitted to the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. As he failed to respond to treatment, he was declared brain dead and Nachimuthu’s daughter Indhu came forward to donate her father’s organs, an hospital release said.

After harvesting the organs, liver and a kidney were transplanted to the patients at KMCH itself and another kidney was given to Ramakrishna Hospital in the city. Eyes were sent to Aravind Eye Hospital in Tamil Nadu, skin and bone to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore, thus saving the lives of seven needy persons.
