Home Guards To Be Part Of Team Enforcing Public Drinking Ban In Delhi

New Delhi: The Delhi government on Monday formed 10 more teams to enforce the ban on public drinking and also decided to deploy Home Guards and civil defence volunteers for the purpose.

The decisions were taken at a meeting Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia held with excise officials at the Secretariat.

In October, Mr Sisodia announced that those consuming liquor in public would be arrested from November 7 onwards.

The government had since been running a public awareness campaign on the issue.

Mr Sisodia had formed 10 excise department teams to enforce the ban.

Public drinking attracts a fine of Rs 5,000 and twice the amount if anyone creates a nuisance in public after drinking.
