Mamata and Arun Jain were proud parents and were living a fulfilling life, giving the best to their three children and basking in their love in return. On the 18th of April 2006 their son Aman, while having an asthma attack, complained of breathlessness, and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was not improving so he was shifted to Ganga Ram Hospital the next morning. The doctors there said there was little hope and eventually declared him brain-dead. His parents and doctors tried anything and everything anyone suggested to help him recover, but nothing seemed to work. Their prayers were not heard.

Mamta says, “Here without thinking even for a moment any parent would say that their greatest fear in life is losing a child, and I was losing mine. I was shattered, and realized the pain of losing a loved one. How helpless and desperate I was. We could not do anything to save him. I realized there must be so many helpless mothers, wives, sisters, children and parents who might just be losing their loved ones too maybe in the lack of organs. So I decided with the consent of my husband to donate Aman’s organs.”

“If we can’t save him let us save other lives through him” says his father Arun. We talked to the Doctor at the hospital and the needful was done within two days.

Organ donation-More To Give-We Couldn't Save Our Son. But We Could Save Others With His Organs

Aman’s kidneys helped two people get off  dialysis; his eyes gave sight to two people; his heart values gave life to other children; and his liver was taken to Chennai.

Somehow this act gave his parents the strength to understand that their son had not lost his life in vain, he is still in this world but just not with them. It helped the whole family too, who were eventually able to share happy memories of Aman. Their son is gone, but in a very real way he still lives on, doing whatever he always did best- offering a helping hand to others. His life was brief but full. Both Arun and Mamta Jain have been actively involved with ORGAN India to spread the message.
